From Bliss to Chaos to Misunderstanding
Author: Vikki Ramdass
Writing was a whole new dimension or world for me to explore. It all began as I started to journal my feelings, as I put pen to paper during my chemotherapy sessions in 2019. Let’s start at the beginning. In 2018, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Boy, was this a real eye-opener for me.
My initial thoughts were that I was not going to survive this ordeal, but after reading articles and hearing other survivors’ testimonials, I began to have a little bit of hope. My family and friends always encouraged me, but there was still something missing.
I had to try to make some kind of sense of it all. So, I began to write in a small notebook as I attended my therapy sessions. At first, I felt like a crazy person, not talking to anyone, just writing all my emotions, not knowing whether I would live through this or not. Memories!
After my sessions, and I realized thankfully that I am alive today, I decided to produce this book, in an attempt to help others such as myself to “Believe In Yourself.” It was the most difficult struggle of my life, to literally fight for your life, to just exist. I cried so many nights, just hoping to make it to the next day.
I am proud to be here today, in the present, and hoping to make a small difference in this big world.

I have been successful in achieving the following awards:
1. Mere Desh Committee – Award for Community Service for Indian Arrival Day – 2012

I remain dedicated to the advancement and upliftment of society. I am committed to working with NGOs, government, business, labour, community leaders, individuals, and organizations both locally and internationally to help build sound communities and improve the quality of life in Trinidad & Tobago, as well as other Caribbean countries and the world at large.
Touching back on my breast cancer diagnosis in 2018, I became an advocate for breast cancer survivors. I really want to make a difference in the lives of others. So, I slowly began to write articles on survivorship with Elephants and Tea, an organization in the USA. I was quite amazed at the support that I have received over the years of writing. I have written articles that have been published, hoping to provide comfort to cancer patients, survivors, and caretakers in the future.
