Rat School is a critique of an education system as depicted in the experiences of one primary school in a developing Caribbean nation state. Here, you will meet Principal Reynolds, promoted to principal after non-performance as teacher; Mrs. Bleakly, similarly rewarded and elevated to supervisor for her heavy-handed wielding of the whip over teachers; teachers who are struggling to educate pupils in a dilapidated, eighty-year-old structure while lobbying for a new school to house them; a PTA that is willing to work along with teachers; the despised, young Brack of mixed parentage: black rat and brown rat; and unaccepted Colin who proclaimed the famous words, “Miss, look a rat!”
